PREPARING FOR YOUR NEW PUPPY”S ARRIVAL
I am often asked what is needed to prepare for your new puppy’s homecoming.
- Life’s Abundance small breed dry puppy food, and a can of moist Life’s Abundance puppy food just in case the puppy is slow to eat the dry food in his/her new surroundings. Sometimes it takes a few days for the puppy to acclimate. Puppy treats for training and praise.
- Small crate, place a towel in the crate for comfort.
- A food and water bowl.
- Tearless puppy or baby shampoo, and a soft bristle brush. I love Life’s Abundance Shampoo. It is what I use on all my dogs including the puppies.
- Peepads for training purposes or if you need to leave your puppy alone for longer than a few hours. I prefer the type that is scented kind. They work great! I also use an exercise pen so the crate can be left inside with the door open, and the puppy can come in and out of the crate as needed.
- Chew teething toys. Havanese love toys that squeak as well.
- Harness only on puppies. I strongly suggest a harness type. It offers better control and is safer for your new puppy. Your puppy will not be leash trained when you bring him home.
- Use the litter blanket you were sent home with for your puppy especially the first few days when he/she will have separation anxiety.
I sincerely hope this helps you with your concerns regarding what to have for your new puppy.
